Thanks John for the response. It has been many years since I had that bass but I was recently listening to some recordings I made with it back in the '80s and it has the most wonderful tone, now I wish I still had it.

4005 caps

I used to have a '67 4005WB but I never opened it up. Did the bridge pickup in that have the .0047 cap or did it go straight to the selector switch?

The best solution is what I did on my '73 4001, by adding a switch to select between the .0047 cap or a piece of wire. Now I have the best of both worlds. Control cavity cover on 4004 series

I am curious as to why the cover plate is not flush with the back. My guess is that due to the thin-ness of the body the controls are too close to the back to allow recessing the cover plate, is this correct?

Remember to replace the .0047 cap with a piece of wire, not just remove the cap or you will get no sound from the treble pickup.
