Re: It Was 30 Years Ago Today...

Great story Wints, your bass was my inspiration to have one of my 73's refined in white (almost done). I mean, if a Bee Gee can do it, why can't I?

Re: Anyone know who this is?

Found (with a few others) at:

Pretty cool info at the link above. Especially this part:

Shortly before Reeves got killed in a plane crash, Kirkland got an invitation to return to work for him, but he declined. Nashville had left a bitter taste in ...

Re: Cleaning and polishing: step-by-step pictorial

Most Julys that I've seen (and own) have checkered binding, most Augusts don't. Exceptions- Dave Scantland's July doesn't and Joey Vasco's August does. Just one of those peculiar things about the transition period. Tail lift on any 4001 after April is common and can be quite bad sometimes.

Re: '71 Azure 4001?????

Not too many old azures out there but I remember Simon Mole of the UK has got a nice Jan 73 with all the good stuff. Apologies to Shaun for spelling his name like Mr. Connery's. Yeah the Bongos are pretty cool, mainly for me due to their five string configuration, but I don't talk about them here ...

Re: '71 Azure 4001?????

Sean's right, there's a certain allure to a pre-skunk 4001, and especially one in azure since they are so damn rare. I wouldn't mind having one but the cost would equal/exceed my four Bongo five strings. So for now I'll just stick with them and chop wood with my 73's.

I know ..... because 73 azures are just so ...... pedestrian ...... :) (especially the transition ones)

Re: Well traveled, at rest - for now

That's pretty cool Paul, glad to see you get some use out of one of my experiments. This bass taught me that you don't do things like this to natural finish instruments, it's hard to go back. The bridge was an experiment too, if I would have known that Hipshot would have made a bridge with no ...

Re: New "music room"

Here's the unfinished one when it used to be a working five string, between the two rick "goons" in my mancave. It then went to Crisman who had plans for making it an eight stringer but he bailed. I found some other fivers to replace it with though.

Welcome to the forum. Here's his brother, a June of 73. I would say yours is extremely rare especially in azureglo.

Re: Another Wal......BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

Very nice fiver Brian, Wals have a good rep in that department. Speaking of fivers, I just engineered a deal that has an original Dargie Delight Bongo 5HS coming my way soon. They only made twelve 5 string Bongo DD's and only three in the HS pickup config (the one that sounds closest to a rick- w ...

Re: Ric Bass Tones on Record: Most Aggressive

Don't forget Dave Meros playing on some of Spock's Beards early stuff, crunchy rick tones played with a pick. I think someone here even bought his bass from that time off ebay back in 2003.

That does sound great Scott.....nice playing as well. I have, obviously, heard plenty of 4004's before but mine never sound like that. Maybe because I am the definition of a hack.

Great piano-like tone Scott. Brian, I think you are a flats/fingers guy if I recall (bloody fingers), Scott ...

Here's two for you Tony, Happy B-Day. Good news- the Stealth Music Man finish is matte which is fingerprint proof, unless you're eating fried chicken while playing.
