Carl Wilson 12 strings - the best you can get??

Post by 8mileshigh »

Just thought I'd get your thoughts on the CW 12 string. I picked mine up last night and was reminded just how great a guitar these are. Awesome sound and so light. I still think these are an under appreciated instrument - Rickenbacker's secret weapon.

I total agree. Out of all the 12 strings that I've owned. My CW is by far, my favorite. The thin top, 7.4's, and the lightness makes for a very enjoyable guitar to play. It's hard to stop playing!

There's one on gbase.com at the moment for $1995. They really are worth going for.

Robert - I think Mike Parks has an unsold jetglo 360/12CW still in stock (although it's not pictured on his site, just mentioned in the collectibles section).

I've been meaning to ask this to the forumites for a while but keep forgetting....does anyone know the exact "breakdown" of the 500 CWs made, in terms of finish and number of strings? I've heard that there are 125 of each of the four combinations between jetglo/fireglo and 6/12 strings, but it seems to me that there is a greater proportion of fireglo 12's out there...which would make sense since that's what Carl played. And did he ever play a 6-string 360? (Or any jetglo rick, for that matter?)

I recall seeing him with a FG 360/6 back in the late '60s on stage.

Mr. Hall might care to comment, Chris. I know he knows the answers, but per his request I cannot be the one to share the break down with you. Maybe he will comment on it.

By the way, the 360/12CW is the best Rickenbacker I own. Great sound, looks to die for, and a vintate vibe about it! Nice job all around.

On the Rickenbacker websites, they list total brakdowns. I am sure that someday, when John Hall gets to it, he will put them up. Hopefully, he is too busy retooling the LightShow line of Rickenbackers right now to play on the internet, but most likely he is probably working on the C-series. Hum, what about a 331c69? Mr. Hall, I think we have something here Image

A 331c69...now THAT would be something...

Actually, I hope they're busy making a second 500-unit run in the CW series: a faithful replica of Carl's 330S/12!

That would be nice too. I am keeping my fingers crossed on the 331c69... and with those stupid fingers crossed it sure it tough to play guitar!

Ummm, I think the 331LS first came out in 1970, according to what I've read elsewhere.
