McCartney's Epiphone Texan

Post by 325_fan »

I see Musician's Friend has the replica for $40K. Just curious, I noticed that a new saddle was added to the piece somewhere along the line. The saddle is compensated to make the "G" (I think), the "B", and the "E" intonate correctly even though the saddle is inversly slanted for Paul's left handed playing. When did this modification take place? In all the footage for "Yesterday", I can't make out if the saddle has the compensations.

The only photos I've seen of Paul's Texan showed the bridge slanted.

I enjoy seeing a Brit playing a Texan more than seeing a Texan 'playing' a Brit....(sorry, Mr. Blair...)

Good one, Dane. Bamboozled, snookered could also apply. But don't do this to your guitar at home.

40K is mighty steep and I bet it is more in the neighborhood of 4K (still a tad pricy)

Right on, Ronn! (Unless you got a town down there called 'Kennebunkport', which I'm pretty sure you don't...)

Or at least for poet laureate.

The one for $40,000 is a special one signed by Sir Paul himself:

40K Egads, is someone crazy enough to pay that for a Texan? I got mine at a pawn shop in downtown Portland in 1987 for $300.00 with the alligator case. Guess I must be very lucky.

Yeah, the bridge saddle is slanted. My original question was; Did McCartney's Epi have the special compensated saddle on his original back in the '60's?

at the frankfurt musikmesse the gibson über-booth had one that Macca used, but, I don't know if they actually displayed the original. For $40K, i'd rather buy 25 rics !!!

The compensated saddle wasn't on it in the 60's, that's something he's had added more recently to replace the stock saddle.

40K for a McCartney autograph on a faked antique Texan.

New heights in cynical marketing have been accessed.
