I am all for healthy competition, but I must confess that I have not bid on items before because I have noticed that Forum members are the high bidders. If you REALLY want an item, then I suppose that you have to go for it regardless, but we are a family here & I think that looking out for each other goes with the territory.
There was an item that I wanted that a US friend was bidding on, so I emailed him to see how serious he was. Turned out that he wasn't that bothered & welcomed me to bid. Incidently, it went for much higher than either of us were prepared to pay, but at least no toes were stepped on!

'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

I, too am in the minority. I'd rather that there was a distinct lack of hard feelings.

I don't see why there should be hard feelings at all.....my Chris Pappas (appletree antiques) voodoo doll has been through some pretty horrible tortures though
.
Bid your max and don't worry about what anyone else is doing. If I get outbid it just means somebody wanted it more than me or has more $$$$$ than I do. No biggie.
The only time auctions get on my nerves is when the seller ends it early and takes an outside bid. I think that is playing outside of the rules. Other than that.....snipe away !

I watch a lot of items just to see what the going price is and almost every desirable item I see gets sniped right at the end, and I mean with like about 20 seconds left. When I'm serious about an item I watch it like a hawk for the last hour, I have broadband so I don't get sniped (anymore) and often I'll add some more at about the 30 second mark just in case. Always bid the complete maximum you will pay, and then watch right at the end and maybe throw a few more bucks on.
I don't do the ebay thing... at least not yet. Guess that makes me a strange minority here. I do enjoy you guys posting on the ebay happenings, and it gives me a sense of the value of vintage Rics. It's also fun to look at unusual Ricks and try to discover their origins.
I always enjoy the threads about weird Rickenbackers on Ebay. Knock yourselves out, and keep on posting the weird and wacky world of Ebay Ricks... I enjoy it, even if I don't ever bid....
