Same for me Rob, 3 and 3, except one of my heads is a Skunkworks head. I have to get another 70's head. I use the skunkworks head through one or two B-15T cabs. They were modern SS 100 watt B-15's made for a few years during the early 90's that Jess Oliver designed (got them cheap), the amps are kind of sterile sounding so I use the cabs with SVT heads and they sound like a big clear B-15. The cabs are killer though, solid as a rock and have 4 ohm Eminence 15"s in them.

Edski, try these settings on your Behringer:
Gain- 12 o'clock
140 hz- 10 o'clock
Middle- 7 o'clock
1.6 hz- between 7-8 o'clock
Treble- 5 o'clock
Shape- between 12 & 1 o'clock
Ultrabass- off
Deep- off
Brite- off
My 4001 has the cap removed (big improvement) and I'm using 15's for speakers. Its the Holy Grail sound.

Edski, no coffee yet. I left off "Bass" at 5 o'clock. Sorry.

Interesting, far more solid-state stuff than I expected. Funny thing is that apart from one or two (I want that Walter Woods! Image ) i've played through pretty much every combo posted. Image

If I had the $$ and could be bothered with the weight i'd be into '70's SVTs (or a Mesa 400+), but these days I find even my V4 to be heavier than hell and i'm not that old!

Many FX out there? I honestly haven't met many bass players who really delve into them. I've limited my board to 8 pedals now, but man i'd be lost these days without half of them...

I have an SVT head (I'm pretty sure it's from the 70s, but I don't know the exact year or how to find it) that I run through an Ampeg 4x8 cab (yes, four eight-inch speakers). The head blew the 4x8 speakers once, so I bought stronger speakers. Sounds great.

If it's a 70's SVT head it was either made in linden NJ, (early) or Magnavox (middle to late). Mid 70's and earlier have toggle switches with little round pilot lights and polarity switches, later ones have white push switches with square pilot lights and no polarity switches and there could be some overlap in the middle. They all have blue grille cloth. The first three years 69-71 have blue graphics that looks etched (it isn't, it's a plate with the letters cut out over a piece of blue plastic), the middle year 72-75 have printed black graphics, the late ones 76-79 also have printed black graphics but have a plastic plate them it to protect the printing and they also have a big Ampeg insignia on the removable front grille plate. Many people think the Magnavox heads sound better, I've had both and think they all sound good.

I'm virtually positive it was recovered and regrilled at some point in the early 90s, so I'll have to go on other features. I'll check when I get home...

I use an '81 MTI made Ampeg SVT, which is the same circuit as the old 70's ones, but has a black panel with white lettering like the modern ones. I use it through a custom made Ampeg style 8x10, except I have 4 10's and 1 15 in it.

I also use a Sunn 200S or 2000S through a custom made rear-loaded and ported 1x15 for smaller gigs and recordings. I'm thinking about putting a horn in this cabinet also.

These are used with my self made Ric 4001 copy that I've had finished for several years now.

It sounds better than Bob's because its much louder! Image

Kevin if it's a 70's it will say either Ampeg, Linden NJ, Ampeg, Selmer or Ampeg, div. of Magnavox on the back black lower panel where the jacks are or something similar. MTI took over in 1980 I believe and St. Louis Music in 86, 87? They were sold again recently.
Greg, mine all go to 11.

Ampeg (Linden NJ) B-25 (not a B-25b) circa 1969.

It's got black graphics on the front, and on the back in a box it says "THE AMPEG COMPANY" and "A DIVISION OF THE SELMER CO." -- with "V9-SVT AMPLIFIER" right below the box.

Yeah that's a 70's Keven, not sure of the year but I think it may be a later one as it says SVT-V9 on it, they used the power amp section for both from about 76-79, maybe a little earlier, does it have a push switch on it or toggle switches? I found an ad for a Selmer Ampeg from 1974 if that tells you anything. 70's Ampegs are very hard to date. Can you imagine a 300 watt tube amp for guitar?
