What amps are being used out there?

Hah! I get asked to turn down when I'm using my 7.5 watt Alessandro Beagle head for guitar, so I can't imagine 300 watts.

My SVT has a white plastic rocker switch for power.

Yeah it a late 70's, I have two and they're great sounding heads. The matching cab for the V9 was a 9x10, haha! Peter's going to buy one.

I have a 1973 Hiwatt DR-103 head and a 1971 Fender Bassman 4x12" cabinet. The cab is a bit "shakey" at times (resonates sometimes) but the combination works. If I just could afford another Hiwatt head and some Hiwatt cabs...

Pekka, I had that problem with an elderly Ampeg B25B cabinet (Linden made). Even with all the wood screws tightened down and the speaker screws firmly in, it vibrated on certain lower notes. I was told the internal bracing was starting to work loose from all the years of service; thats the noise I was hearing. It just got worse so I had to retire it as you probably will. Good luck with $ for the Hiwatt's.

Robert, when I bought the cab I put some metal plates between the "speaker angles" (couldn't find a better word, an old Bassman cab had all the speakers in angles facing towards the middle) and it helped. I have to check those screws once in a while.
Yeah, it's old and the speakers (original) might give up in the future. I especially feel sorry for the speakers when playing the 12-string bass!

I had an SVT cab in which the internal bracing started to come unglued, I screwed it and glued it, sounds as good as new now. Those old Fender cabs were pretty flimsy and always vibrated if played loud beyond their ratings. They used thin board, (maybe particle board?) at least the ones I had did, and they had virtually no bracing. They sounded good up to their rated power output though. I've never heard of a 71 4x12 Fender bass cab, I had a 71 and it had a double 15" cab. What model is it Pekka? Must be a rare model.

The cabinet for the Fender 300PS ('75-'80) had the 4 12" speakers in the corners angled in towards the center.

Yeah, I didn't think they made anything like that in 71. I've stayed away from Fender bass amps since they stopped making the old tube Bassmans, and Showmans (even though it was a guitar amp).

I use a Tubeworks 7200 MosValve combo (1x15", 130W). Nice sounding tube pre-amp. Beats any solid state combo I have used.

Just played an number of amps today and fell in love with a Traynor YMB200 (200W) all tube head with matching cabinet (1x15, 2x10). I need it... perfect size for my needs.

There is a V4B on ebay with 3 days left. It was at 130 bucks or so , so I bid three times. It is now pushing 350. I think someone is doing it on the sly. there's now way it should be this active with 3 days left! He can't even test it, no cab!
