That pallet of 4002's are stashed away in the RIC underground bunker specially created to withstand Ric forumite attacks.
Personally, I have never played a finer Ric than a 4002. The neck and ebony fretboard are so sweet. Chris is right about the bass being a studio bass. It has and XLR output, along with the standard stereo and mono outputs.
I think Scott may have hit the nail on the head.
I can see it now.
Special limited edition 4002's for the 75th anniversary.
Dave, come to the Winchester confluence. I am bring this if i get it back from Dale.
She should look like it just came off that pallet.

In all likelihood that pallet of 4002's is made up
of unfinished basses with no hardware on them. J.H.(or perhaps F.C.in this case) would probably not have had more bodies built than he had parts for so there should also be a case of loaded pickguards somewhere nearby. Even though it's his company, I wonder if his dealership franchise agreements would prohibit him from selling any finished insruments outside of his dealer network. If that's the case, he could sell them in unassembled form. I for one would love to build one of these up.

Dane,
I have no problem supporting my local dealer if that's what it takes. I'm sure arrangements can be made for us to work through the distribution network to get one of these.
Even if they are unfinished, imagine their value anyway simply since they're leftovers. That might actually work out better from a collector's standpoint since they would possibly be different than the original 4002's.

If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.
There's simply no current plans to offer these- it was just an example of how things cannot be interpreted as absolutes about our production.
You guys can stop writing me begging e-mails now!
I do have the pickups and ebony fret boards but not the pickguards (which wouldn't be hard to make). But I'm not even sure that if I ever made these that I'd do them exactly as a 4002 anyway. Maybe a 4002Xii?
