How about something like the "experimental" 4001s in the Richard Smith book?

It basically looks like a 4004 with the 4001/3 bridge and a 4005 style pickguard!

That would be awesome!

Joe, I'd buy a 4003 in that orange color. ;-)

I'd be happy if Ric would put a regular production S model back in the inventory.

I'd totally buy an "S" bass if they brought them back.

John, do you have a pic?

Yes. All I want is a Mapleglo "S" bass, like I keep saying every time the topic comes up . . .

Actually, I've been thinking . . . what would be REALLY awesome would be a 4004L body (in mapleglo or fireglo of course) but with the 4003 pickguard and knobs or some iteration thereof, and 4003 pickups, with the hipshot bridge. That way, you'd get the absolutely gorgeous contoured, unbound, slightly smaller body and the dotted fretboard and walnut headstock wings, but with the pickguard (which I find very necessary when I play, and very beautiful) and pickups of a 4003. Options include toaster OR HB-1 in the neck position, and white or black trim (I'd go for the toaster and white, personally).

That would be a GORGEOUS bass.

here's an S bass that is even more rounded and has black trim and 5 strings ... very cool ...

An trans orange would look very nice on a 4003 or 4004. It would have to be a deep warm orange, not bright. A black pickguard / black binding would look great on a 4003 with that color.

They were discontinued because they did not sell very well. We must drive JH crazy with this stuff. Image We always want what he no longer makes. I love the S too, by the way.

Ditto here for the S model....

VERY comfy to play while sitting down...

OR standing up, for that matter.

Anyone care to photoshop a 4004L with the maple board with a third pickup next to the bridge? The one I'd want would have the bubinga board, but have that pickup spacing. Image Kind of a Lemmy look, but the bridge pickups would be closer together.

And no one said a 4004 Cii FL? Or has that been said and I'm too stupid to see it was already there?

Hi gang-
I'm a newbe to this forum but a long time rick nut.
I would think a logical bass would be a 4001 or 3
with checkers and B to B inlay. Throw in some walnut
wings and you've got a winner. Being that they(Ricken....)
have all that stuff anyway, it's a wonder that they have yet
to do this.....
