A few weeks ago I bought a 2004 Fender Esquire built in Mexico. I got it for about $500 with BIN on Ebay. It looks like it's never been played and the previous owner upgraded to Gotoh vintage tuners and a hot Dimarzio pick-up. It's black with a maple neck. This thing screams and looks very authentic. I'm planning to put reissue brass saddles and then just enjoy this guitar. I also have a 2004 50's Reissue Stratocaster that was made in Mexico (Daphne Blue with maple neck). The pick-ups sound really weak. Any suggestions?

Randy,

Buy a set of pickups from a guy on e-bay called guitarfetish

Here's a link.

Over time I bought three complete loaded pickguards from this guy and the pickups are scorchers. The best that I have ever played. I have all sorts of Strats with every pickup combination you can imagine. Lace Sensors, Texas Specials, Might Mite etc. The pickups from this guy are the best.

Randy,
Kinman's are the best of the best if you wanna go noiseless.

Otherwise, I would highly reccomend Lindy Fralin's pickups.

If I were to ever get a guitar I might get one of these. It was a tie between a tele, an SG and a 620. The 620 would probably be the best bet though.

My cousin wants a guitar and I said I'd help her look for one. Is a MIM tele a good starter guitar?

The MIM stuff is pretty reasonable these days, Nate - there are some very good deals on eBay if you're looking for a s/h one. My suggestion would be to check it out first hand if you can - they vary a bit in 'feel'.

When I was still in the states I played my friends MIM strat.. it wasn't bad. Then I played his MIM J bass.. not bad either. But then he tried to tell me his J was better than my 4001!

I'll ask her about a tele.. or a strat. The only guitar she know is a les paul.. and I don't have $1000 to spend on her. If I had a $1000 I'd buy another rick.

Are there any CIJ Fenders for a decent price?

The Telecoustics are like toys. Very small. Have not played one yet.

5000!!!! Congrats, Paul..... a hard-earned milestone! Multiply that by the average time spent typing, add the time spent thinking about the topic and what you're going to post..... must be months!!!!!

I played a Stratacoustic late last year - most unimpressive - piece of junk IMO!!

That's like waiting for the odometer to roll over to some special number, and then missing it.

Anyway, congrats Paul, that's an impressive milestone.
