On the back of In the City, he's holding an Ibanez, isn't he?

That was before the cash started coming in.
As soon as Polydor stumped up, he bought a Ric.

Phelps. I'm from Mpls and I was big into the music scene in the early 80's. I don't recall either of those bands you mentioned. I do remember an all girl band that played Rics, but can't remember their name. They used to play at the Hair Police. Remember that place? It was on 7th Street between Northern Lights music store and 1st Ave. It was a hair salon by day and a punk rock hang out with bands at night. Very cool.

Good links to Ed Ackerson and The Dig.

I'd bet that the band you saw was the Blue Up. I remember Northern Lights music, but I was too young and sheltered to go out on the scene very often. I only lived there (Edina) for a few years beforer moving back to NJ. The Dig was really great, even though I only saw them once -- one of those experiences that lasts a lifetime and influences musical taste.

Randy,
I saw the Jam during the Falklands War. They played the hell out of "Little Boy Soldiers".

"Setting Sons" is what made me want a Rick--the Best Guitar Sound Ever, IMHO, and I'm a Telecaster guy. Funny enough, I hadn't listened to it in years, and two weeks ago I dubbed it off vinyl onto CD. Blew me away again.

I've been thinking of having a plate of shrimp.

Funny all this, as in the past three weeks I've hauled out all my old Jam album and import singles...also just bought the Jam at the BBC CD.

Still sounds sharp.

Any tips on getting that sound, short of ponying up for an AC-30? Or was it a Marshall? Did Weller use roundwound strings?

One day you're not thinking of anything. But then you might think plate. Or shrimp. Or plate of shrimp..
