Exactly Jeff...
The neck is way too thick for my liking and it is a heavy bass compared to my vintage stuff. I think it's twice the thickness of the RM! I just want to thin out the herd a little too. A 73 and a 64 deluxe may leave the building within the next couple of months, and possibly a 72 as well...
It sounds fantastic though with that hot horseshoe. I can certainly see why the new stuff has it's fans.

Very cool. My Dad used to own this bass and I might have to bid on it to bring it back into the house. I always regretted seeing it go.
But then again, I do really want one of those new 4003's w/ the walnut wings and the vintage tone control.
Oh well, I guess I could try to buy both and not eat for a while.

I found this Friday AM. What a beauty! +1 on the "too bad it isn't an S" sentiment. Or better yet, a V63! But, having said that, this thing is so close to perfection, I can deal with the binding and triangles. I'm goin for it! Hope things don't get too out of hand. I might have to part ways with my beloved '89 4003S Jetglo.
