Thinking Of Parting With The CS!

Post by fran4001 »

Apologies if this is the wrong area for this. Just fishing for advice or info before I really decide. I'm close though! I must be a glutton for punishment, since you'd think I learned from selling my '69 Burgundyglo 4001, but, this may top it! Of course this is G.A.S. related since I never know what I want from one day to the next. In order to raise some cash, I'm thinking of offering it in trade for a nice V63 FG (only), preferring an older one with the not-too-long TRC, and "some" cash. This is where it gets interesting. I could Ebay her and hope to get $3,800-4,200 like everyone else, but greed isn't my motivation here. I'd love to see someone here end up with it. She's #207 in the run, birthday of August '91. With certificate and silver case of course. The only known flaws are the usual small paint chips next to the bridge and 'shoe surround, which have been touched up, a little wear in the 'shoe chrome on the "E" side, and a small bleed mark on the back of the neck from a stand pad. Plays and sounds phenomenal. I got her from the original owner, who got it right here in town new from DDC Music in early '92. Definitely not a multi-owner world traveller. The bottom line is I really want a V63FG, and I'm afraid to tell you what I want the cash for! Actually, no snickers yet, I have a bead on a '65 Hofner 500/1. Got the Cavern and V62 reissues, but really want a vintage one before they dry up. They're more rare than the Rics at this point. Whatcha all think? Talk me out of it or into it!

I thought I was the only one that doesn't know what he wants from one day to the next. LOL

How about a trade for a 4003 monty brown, and a Rogue Beatle bass copy? Huh huh? Just kidding. Image

If I had a FG V63 I would definitely go for it, plus some cash. IMHO, I would keep the CS, and buy the V63, and 500/1 later.
Buy it before someone else does.

I second Bob's opinion, that is, "keep the CS and buy the V63".

Having both, I appreciate each as they have their own special traits.

Problem is, the only way I can raise cash is to part with the CS. For either the V63 or the Hofner. Not a happy situation.

A V63 I can see, but a Hõfner? No way. If you want a Hõfner, there's one here in town for not too much. Keep the CS.

I wouldn't give up a CS for a Hofner, I wouldn't give up any of my Ricks for a Hofner or any other bass.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

They way those things are going up in value, in 5 years it may be worth, who knows, 10K. You could buy 5 hofners for that,

I still don't get why people pay 2000 bucks for a 200 dollar bass. And with the whole dang body being a big microphone.

Fran i own an original 1964 hofner violin bass, and a 1992 4003.I have played the cavern re-issue and the v62 back to back with mine and there was no real difference.Keep the CS,i have'nt played the violin bass since 1998 when my girlfriend bought me the 4003.If we where in the same country i would go for the swap, knowing i had the better deal. You have an excellent bass with the CS ENJOY IT I WOULD.

Depends how much you admire Chris Squire.

If it's as much as I do, (and many others here), the thought would never cross your mind.

As much as I don't do replicas, if I was offered a 4001CS, I'd rip your arm off - purely because it's a CS. Image

hey Fran... i have a '97 4001 CS, and a '65 Hofner. a '65 Hofner is not that different from the reissues, keep the CS.

Speaking of Chris Squire... I've just found something I did on the Tascam CD-BT1 years ago, when it was brand new!

I was a new player experimenting with the Yessongs CS sound! Hehe!

Right-click, save as.

Actually, come to think of it. To be ruthless, I could always pick up that Hofner and swap it for your CS....
