Post by simer4001 »

Did George's 2nd RIC 12 string have checkerboard binding?

Most likely yes, I would assume. Was the Checker standard in late '65? Christian

I can't believe that guitar hasn't turned up somewhere in the world after all these years.

That guitar could be worth more than a million. You'd think that whoever had it would at least try to fence it!

The person who has it now probably doesn't know what it is, assuming it even still exists.
Listen to that sustain!

Is this the "Minnesota radio station " guitar that you're referring to?

It has turned up, if I'm not mistaken. Isn't it the one that was for sale at a music store in Florida some years back?

I understood that it had been spirited away from the storage room at Abbey Road by the lead player for an (ahem) nameless American group who recorded there, and later surfaced in the aforementioned music store.

I understand that there ongoing negotiations between the current owner and the Harrison estate to return it.

Or do I have my signals crossed?

According to what I've read on Bjorn Eriksson's site (and other places) the 12 disappeared shortly after the Beatles last show in San Francisco in '66, and hasn't been seen since.

What about George's Tennessean? The guitar from Help and the Day Tripper riff is out there somewhere and it's a fair bet it will never be ID'd. George's second 12 is back with the Harrisons.
This is off the record

Glenn, was it recently returned? Can you confirm what I said (above)?

I'd like to know what happened to the Tennessean as well, because I don't think I've heard any theories, other than "it's been stolen."

I don't think anyone knows of the serial number on the Tenny, so that's what may prevent it from every being IDed. Everytime I see a '63 or '64 Tenny on eBay, I wonder if it could be Georges.

Didn't one of George's Gretches fall off a lorry and was run over on the street? I think I recall reading that in "Beatles Gear" book, but I'm not in the mood to hunt it down.
