Springfield IL roundup

Hey, guys, thanks for the thoughts. Sorry I haven't checked in, life's been hectic lately. The first of the F2 tornadoes missed us by 2 blocks; it was a really close call, but we only had fallen tree limbs and debris (plus some kind of aluminum roofing piece) in our yard, plus loss of power for a while. We had many friends with roofing damage, but thankfully no injuries.
Also, I share Lindsay's sadness on the loss of the Barrelhead - it was the best place to get a burger in Springfield, and it had Guiness on tap - it will be missed.
Thanks again for the kind thoughts (sorry it took me so long to sign back in), you guys are the best!

'Tis the season. While not discounting the tragedies of death and destruction that tornados and thunderstorms bring, they are "flesh wounds" compared with what hurricanes and earthquakes (and tidal waves) can do. While they can't be predicted with pinpoint accuracy, most folks around here are aware of the likely conditions for bad storms and keep aware of their approach. Thank goodness for modern weather tracking technology!

The storms came and went. And so far, there has not been any deaths reported. Some power lines are back down - many that were repaired just 3 weeks ago. One weather man last night said that this last batch was one powerful line of storms reaching from St. Louis on up to the Peoria area - however, the tornadoes that hit 3 weeks ago were more like a bowling ball in that all of their energy was focused in one area.
