How long were you thinking of staying down there, Melibee?

Probably a stupid question - guess it depends on when the thang's a'happenin', eh?

We were thinking of spending about 10 days in southern California--that will give us plenty of time to take the kids to Disneyland, etc....and a couple of days side-trip to San Diego area, where my husband has a buddy....we need to know when and where the EVENT is so we can plan our other activities around it, and get into the hotel that's closest; I want to meet as many Forumites as will show up! It's my birthday on the 6th August. So perhaps a combined party for Rickenbacker and me? Although I'll be celebrating my 41st year. (although it feels alot like my 75th). Just want to give you all time to buy me something......................something beginning with R............

I don't know whether there's an "official" event planned or even a confluence, Melissa. If there's going to be a confluence perhaps now is the time for putting things together. I'll be in CA for the last 2 weeks of August, so hopefully whatever is happening will be during that time.

Disneyland is great but if you can get a 'two parks' ticket for Disneyland and California Adventure (they are literally yards from each other) at the right price go for that - CA has the more 'exciting' rides (California Screaming, Maliboomer, etc) - no Mickeys and Minnies, but the 'eye candy' (if you know what I mean) is perhaps a bit better. You can do the two parks in one day - albeit a long one! Image

I stayed at the Sheraton Anaheim when I was there in '02 - not overly cheap but pretty close to the parks and a great place to stay - with shuttle buses to the parks. Knotts Berry Farm isn't far away either.

Fancy that, eh? An Aussie trying to tell a Yank all about it! Image

Melissa, if you're going to be in San Diego don't forget to take the kids to Legoland and Sea World.

There will be an official event, as John Hall has told a number of us, as well as the Second SoCalCon timed according to the official event. I'm expecting these events to be sometime in the last two weeks of August, but I've heard nothing offical as of yet.

To the powers that may be: I hope the celebration is not over the August 26th, 27th weekend! I am already scheduled to be filming with The Antiques Roadshow. I hope it's the week before -- please!
