General Bootleg Discussion
Although it's not a Beatle's bootleg, has anyone ever heard a bootleg of "Letting Go" from the BOTR sessions? A local radio station played it a couple of years ago and I've been looking for a copy ever since. I've always liked that song but this version had a much better groove to it and sounded great. It was a completed and mixed take as far as I can tell but it didn't have the little bit of extra polish and stuff that the released version had.

I have a copy of the Don Ho boot, but on CD. It was re-recorded at the wrong speed unfortunately. Is the LP the same?
AFAIK, the 27-minute version of HS does not exist on any bootleg label. Paul is the only person with a copy of the tape, and I'll wager it will never be released.
IMHO The best reproduction yet done (not official) of the Esher material is a boot called "From Kinfauns to Chaos." Check that out. IIRC it was released on the now defunct Vigotone label.

I agree that 128bit MP3's are not the best quality but a lot of boots were horrendous to start with and not what I would consider CD quality.
I recall being very disappointed after paying what I considered to be a lot of money on old vinyl boots back in the day only to discover it was barely listenable. Non-returnable and always a gamble.
That said a lot of the Mp3 boots I have sound fine and its given me the opportunity to hear a lot of songs/demos for the first time. Some are better than other still depending on the source I imagine.

Stay away from encoded audio or compressed audio. The boots that are sold with lossy audio is a waste of money and a rip off. Usually a lot of the material is sourced from online sources where at times the downloaded file might be a low bit rate and people think that transcoding to a higher bitrate will make it sound better. Not the case. There is a reason why it's called lossy, once you compress it, it's gone, vanished, caput.
Better to get it from a good source.
I never thought that digital audio could get any worse than bad sourced analog audio from the old days. I was wrong. The times are all about convenience and speed. Quality is out the door.
I guess we took ten steps back to bad sounding bootlegs.
Oh, and go to Vigotone.com. You'll find some titles that are still for sale. They even copies of 30 Days.

I will agree that quality has gone down hill thanks to online bootlegs and downloading, but it makes it alot easier for someone to get access and get introduced to beatlegs. I have downloaded some pretty good quality stuff though, it's just harder to find. I just wish original beatlegs were easier to get ahold of now days, but I guess the hunt is part of the fun.
And if I had the money I would for sure by the 30 days set.

Hmm well Don I'm new to Bootlegs but here's a couple sites I found. I'm sure there's more.
This site is for trading and has alot of info on Beatlegs.

You can downlaod various Bealtegs here for a small fee. The quality on them varies though. And it's not as cool as having the actually bootlegs. Worth a look though.
