"did the original fretboad have a lacquered or varnished finish then?"

Yes.

"Given that the frets look almost new (not in keeping with wear noted above) that I guess that it's a possibility on the varnish?"

Could be that it was re-fretted. Would explain why there isn't any finish and new looking frets.

Peter,

That 4001 is beautiful!

You're killing me man! It's got everything!

That would make me want to start playing left-handed!

You don't have any like that in right-handed do you?Image

Kevin, I did have a right handed one identical to this but I had no use for it so I burnt it on the fire one cold winter!

Not really cold or not really winter?! Or not identical? Or you didn't burn it? Or you didn't really have it?..Image

Er... why do you ask?

Hehe, my father was tempted by it a month or so ago, we went up to Leeds to try it... sounded pretty good. There's not *too* many lefty V63s in the UK, you see. Image

Musicground is the only shop in the UK where you might actually find something nice like that hanging on the wall.

Of course Ricsrus has the best overall supply of Rics in the world!
(my personal opinion and not officially researched! Image).

Uh, OK Mark. Why did he not go for it? (obviously I'm very glad he didn't!) I tried to negotiate on the price but they weren't having it. Though from what Peter has said it was a good deal anyway.

I saw a blue 4003 - gold hardware - very nice lefty in the Bass Cellar (which is now Musicground in Denmark st) August last year - chickened out of buying it.

Turned out it was sold to Mick Jagger for his son when I enquired about it's whereabouts. That's when they dug out the v63. No regrets here though!

Well Peter,

If you ever run across some more right-handed firewood, you just give me a yell! It gets cold in Pennsylvania too!Image
