Different Strings always sounded more mellow to me, tone wise. But that might just be different effects rather than a different bass.

I just got the okay from the wife to get the Replay DVD, so I'll check W**mart & Zellers for instant gratification.
I got the other 2 online, so I'm not sure if they will have it locally.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the songs played. I've never seen them live & missed the one time the concert was broadcast on TV here.

Thanks for the update Steve. Someone in the US is picking me up a copy at Best Buy, so hopefully I'll have it a bit sooner and with the extra audio too.

As for the tone discussion, the bass sound on ESL is my favourite - Signals is pretty similar, but not quite the same depth.

I'm pretty sure all of PW was recorded with the 4001, and all of MP was recorded with the Jazz. Only New World Man and Digital Man on Signals was recorded with the Jazz.

I was at the GUP tour in Toronto (my first RUSH concert) and it was great, except for watching Alex with a white blazer and army pants. Pretty strange attire...

Just opening the package! The reprinted ESL tour book contains a gear list for everyone.
I know how I'm spending the rest of the evening (and tomorrow & maybe Wednesday, too)!

Kevin, try the Stereo Mix and the 5.1 Surround Mix (if you have surround sound) and tell me if you hear a difference in the bass tone on ESL. The 5.1 sound to me is slightly bassier and less clanky.

Popping 'er in the drive right now. I've never used the 5.1 before. Should be interesting. I'll post my findings later.

Yep, I believe you're quite right, Steve. A bit of bite removed from the 5.1 mix. Sounds FINE in stereo.
Going to the living room to use the stereo to fill the air.
Love that JG!

Alex, Red Barchetta is definitely the Ric on MP - Geddy has been quite specific about it. Using that as a reference, I would say that The Camera Eye most likely is too.

I always thought that PW was all the 4001, then read somewhere that TSOR and EN were the Jazz. I had a careful listen and must admit I think they probably are.

Love the 4001 in the DVD! The time just flew by.
The wife remarked that the guy in the yellow shirt made it look as if I was there back in the day (I wish it were true).

I had a read through some of my RUSH reference books and they specifically said that the Jazz was the only bass used on MP. Mr. Lee most likely used some effects to get the sound that we hear on the album for Red Barchetta and Camera Eye. Anyways, the Ric sounds the best of them all.

You can't mistake the bass tone on 'The Camera Eye' for anything except the Rick. It's superb. It is a Rickenbacker.
What d'ya mean... the bass is TOO loud!

Hehe - I'd say the same thing about Red Barchetta, Mark.

Alex, this isn't the only place I've seen Geddy mention it, but here's one interview where he talks about using the Ric on Red Barchetta:

GC Favorite Headache Interview

It's quite near the bottom as an answer to "Was that about the time you switched back to the Jazz?"

Yeah, I've read accounts that say that only the Jazz was used on Moving Pictures, but Geddy has, many times, stated that the Ric was used on both "Red Barchetta" and "The Camera Eye", and all the rest was the Jazz.

Yeah, you can believe the "reference books" or you can believe Geddy himself. You choose. LOL

As an aside, I LOVE the Exit Stage Left DVD even though it has the "voice of god" overdubs by Neil, and on the subject of Neil... bowtie?!?!?!
