(New) 620 Jack question

Post by clearblue »

Regarding the 2 jacks on the 620, When I plug in the cable onthe Rick-o-sound connection there is a definite secure click, when plugged into the normal jack it feels like I do not here that solid feel like it's in securely. No solid, secure click.

The two jacks are of different construction, hence the difference in sound.

BE SURE that your cord has American-made (Switchcraft) ends. Chinese-made plugs are all over the place in tolerances and many just plain do not work.

A number of premium cord makers use Chinese plugs, too, so beware.

Hmm...I use the same cable (monster) on my 330 and I can tell that it's seated securely but not on the normal 620 jack.

Switchcraft and G&H are both quality American made plugs that hold to a true 1/4" sizing. Neutrik also seems to be very consistant. A lot of other stuff is really 6mm which is slightly undersized.

The tactile feel of the end of cable seating is non existant on the 620.

Fear Factor task: unscrew the jackplate, carefully pull out the assembly (jacks and wiring) and plug the cable in to see whether the tang on the jack contact fits into the notch in the plug. According to your description, it won't match up.

Gary, You're description of the task is correct.(until I become more adept with guitars) Image I'll have to see if I can find the correct size screwdriver. Thank-you.

A typical "jeweler's set" of screwdrivers has the right sized ones. This set at Harbor Freight is a bit of an overkill, but it's a good price:

Nice set of screwdrivers. I'll look for one over the weekend.
