As long as party DJ's can still find work, it's doubtful that the young crowd won't know what records are.

Really got into Vinyl again this past year when a friend of mine gave me his McIntosh tube equipment he bought new in the 60's. Married it up with my Klipsch Hereseys and have been buyin' 50's, 60's and 70's vinyl at every garage/estate sale out there!

"No, I have not heard any subliminal messages yet."

A few years back, a band (I can't quite recall who it was) put in the backward message: "Do your homework, listen to your parents, and clean your plate".

Cheap Trick put the Lord's Prayer at high speed at the end of The Dream Police. It was a minor scandal at the time. They said it was meant to be uplifting. Or the End of Touch me by the Doors "stronger than dirt". I think that was only a joke though. what's this have to do with vinyl? Nothing.

I thought it had everything to do with vinyl.

The Dream Police thing I never heard, though I had the album. Funny that album contains the completely unsubliminal Gonna Raise Hell.

I do remember the backwards masking guy on the Tonight Show and thought he was hysterical, as were most of the bands that gave his short career a start.

Well I guess those albums were origianlly on vinyl.
I never noticed the Dream Police thing either until I read about it, it's so fast that it sounds like a high frequency blip at the end of the record.
I thought their early stuff was great until they got so bubblegummy.

Reverse on a turntable = the Russ Gibb option?

I think CT's big mistake was trying to get heavy when AC/DC and all that stuff suddenly was getting airplay like it was finely crafted pop.

Surrender branded them bubblegum and it's quite unfortunate because they had a lot more potential that was squandered after their third album.

Yeah Surrender was not one of their best that's for sure and I agree that song ruined their rep.

Surrender was my favorite CT cut. I joined them at the point of their third album, so it was my initial point of reference. That album rocks, as far as I'm concerned.

They are very smart, market-wise. They saw Japan getting big, and--pop they went!

I can't help it...I love a lot of the early CT stuff, even the stuff before they got recorded, you wouldn't even think it was the same band! Some dark, weird stuff....love it! I love it all, who am I kidding...one of my all-time fave bands.

I actually have a tape somewhere of Russ Gibb's radio show from the early 70's where he goes thru that backward "Paul is dead" stuff for 90 minutes. Classic stuff.

Rick Neilsen....200 guitars, one tone!

I like CT but Rick makes me appreciate the Beatles using Vox and Fender amps.

You can actually hear whether Lennon is playing a 325 or a Casino.

Taking this thread back to vinyl, I noticed yesterday that there are some turntables in the window of my local Urban Outfitters store, which also sells LP frames.

Vinyl is getting hip again.
