Neck Adjustment Article in Vintage Guitar

Post by byu »

Just an FYI - The October, 2006 issue of Vintage Guitar has an article on adjusting Ric necks by Dan Erlewine.

Should be interesting to see what he's got to say!
“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did.”

Actually, it's pretty straight ahead and academic. No opinions, etc. Nice close up pics too.

The info in the article is pretty much what's been discussed in both this forum and the one on the RIC website. But the VG article has a number of pictures with go along with the text.

I find that interesting since I have one of his books and have checked out some of his other materials and never saw any mentions of Rics in them. Good to see him finally address it.

David and all, as a journalist, I must protest the request of scanning and transmitting copyright material. Yeah, I don't have to since this is not my material, but it's the principle of the thing. Go out and buy the magazine (as I will tomorrow), or find a way to order the mag. Sure, one could argue that scanning and transmitting is not much different than loaning the hard copy to someone, but it's quite possible that that copy could then be transmitted to several other people, maybe even enough to affect sales, and that means money, and that means the authors, publishers, and photographers go without, and so forth.

So I protest. If it's something that you need and want, spend money. If you want, I'll pick up an extra copy and send it to you. You pay, of course.

If you go to Vintage Guitar Magazine's website, you can order back-issues. They readily promote the purchase of back-issues, and you shouldn't have a problem getting one. In fact, if you just call them up, they'll answer the phone and send it out to you ASAP. No hassle at all. It's not like other "big" magazines. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Not because I didn't try. Looks like I won't be going to the newstand that has it until Saturday (tomorrow). D.C., let me know if you can't get one, and I'll find one for you.

I have met Dan Erlewine, and my lutherie mentor has taught repair classes for professionals alongside him, most recently at the last A.S.I.A. symposium in Maryland.

Dan is the real deal in every respect. He has his opinions, of course, but he does his best to promote good solutions to playability and structural issues.
