Wow, sounds like a lot more work than just copying tracks onto a CD. Thanks Tony and Gary for the interest and work that is going into this.

The end result sounds really interesting and fun.

I'll be looking forward to the CD also, though I didn't submit a song. Perhaps for the next one...

Will there be a standard cover art done for the CD?

Do you want pics of the guitars used?

If we all included pictures of the guitars we used, we would end up with over 50 pictures. I think they're doing plenty enough, already.

There definately wont be room for gtr pics. The artwork is the biggest hurdle, as I predict the demand for this CD to be less than 100. As a result, I will have to go the CDR route & not the all singing & artwork included manufactured route. Artwork is the most expensive item to produce & I would much rather go for something professional looking & 'less', than amateur looking & 'more'.

I am, however, looking into this at this very moment....

I reckon one of your Ric paintings would be ideal for the cover, Tony. Provided you get clearance from RIC if it's required, of course.

That would be too shameless Howard...I don't think that I could, no matter how appropriate!

After the song, the most important bit for me would be what instruments were played on the song, by whom, engineering and production notes. Any anecdote that might enlighten the listener.

Tony, I was speaking to Gary at the confluence on Friday and I thought I'd post this here for your input. I submitted two songs that I recorded last month. One of them has violins on them.

Now that I've had a chance to listen to them, I think I'm going to remix the song with the violins alot more down in the mix when I do the final album.

Question to you is: do you want a different mix with the violins down? does it matter? if the song isn't going on the CD anyway, it doesn't matter, but if I guess if the song is going on the CD, you will have a one-of-a-kind mix that will appear nowhere else.

Personally, it's all good with me, so whatever you like is fine. Email me if you want a different mix. Thanks for all your hard work!

I tend to give myself a short reign on mixing and doing takes. I never do more than 7 takes on any given thing or I think the performance loses intensity and meaningfulness.

As for mixing, I just go with what sounds the best after 3 listens.

It might be my ADHD or it might be I just like sounding a little raw and "natural."

I'm sure someone like Jeff Lynne or Tom Schulz would kick my butt.

Tom very often over processes his work and Jeff sometimes does as well. But you can't deny that they have produced some memorable material over their respective careers.

So when do we get to find who made the cut on first forum CD? I did not submit anything this time around, but I am just curious.

By the way I second Howard's suggestion on the CD cover. Over to you Tony.

I haven't received anything yet, so I can't make any decisions about anything at the moment. It has been understandably delayed because of the 75th celebrations. If you can get the new mix to Gary Brad, then do it!

Mixing is what it's all about! I love that part of the job. It is a real art & not something to rush. A good mix can take a couple of hours, or all day...it doesn't matter how long it takes, as long as it falls into place eventually.

Your vote has been noted Brian, thanks....but I would still feel uncomfortable taking that kind of decision!

Brad, I just sent you an e-mail.

Tony, I will try to get the package out to you on Satuday.
