It would seem that some of you believe that Steve Irwin had a date with destiny because of his chosen line of work. But IMO the line of decency has been crossed expressing, supporting and embellishing those notions.

Hey I liked the guy and enjoyed his show. I'm saddened by his untimely death. What he did was at times very dangerous work. It comes with the territory. Steve understood this I'm sure. To use Jeff's analogy, If you play with fire enough you will get burned could be a 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree burn. Steve got a fatal 3rd degree burn. Now if only I could be as half as enthused in my line of work as he was in his. Crikey!

I've had time to gather my thoughts after aborting my post last night. I'm disappointed that you chose to post the link, Robert..... I'd rather you had simply stuck with your first post. I found the cartoon quite distasteful in the light of Steve's untimely death..... or at least the early part that I could bear to watch.

The world mourns when a Formula 1 or Nascar driver is killed whilst working in their chosen profession. It's no different to a policeman, fireman or service person performing their duty. The high risk associated with these sorts of jobs should not lessen the impact of death - which it doesn't for the professions I've mentioned. I ask.... why should it for Steve?

I also feel very much for his wife and children.... as I do for the millions that were entertained by him and are saddened by his passing.

This is not a personal dig at anybody who has posted in this thread but a general comment on some of the opinions expressed.

For those travelling Aussies, we lost another icon today. Peter Brock, a well known Aussie car racer, died in a crash in Western Australia during a rally.

Two well liked Aussies in one week - a real tragedy. RIP

Yes, Ron.... I read about 'Peter Perfect' last night. He was one of my all time heroes. I met him a few times through a motor sport contact that I have and he was a great bloke to talk with.

Maybe I'd better come home so that we stop losing all these icons............

Damn! That is very sad news.

On a "close to home" note, Peter Brock showcased my cousin's new sports car, the Marcos TSO GT, in a pre-race event at the Clipsal 500 in 2004.

My condolences to his family and his fans.
RIP Mr. Brock.

Another one has gone west. A 60's DJ "The Daddio of the radio", Don Lunn passed away on Friday at a young71 years. RIP

Remember doing his thing in the 60's Howard, while the Liverpool invasion was on - ah great memories!
