Well I'll be damned! Not what I expected either. Now I'm wondering what the Emperor may do should he win. Graft it on to some other bass or something?

First, I would clean it up a bit, then it would go in my office. Very different for sure.

How does one "win" "first prize" at a guitar show? Being the shreddingest player? Having the prettiest booth? The bitchin'est **** on sale?
Listen to that sustain!

Well, I did say it was different!

What were you expecting, a headless bass? Image

That is a good question Alan. I was wondering that myself.

The inscription reads:

"OFF THE WALL" GUITAR CONTEST
TEXAS GUITAR SHOW 87
AWARDED BY
RICKENBACKER INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION

Who knows what that means!

If I'm not mistaken, "Off the Wall" refers to a column by Teisco Del Ray in Guitar Player magazine during the 70s and 80s.

His column featured the weirdest, obscure guitars...those with plenty of knobs, switches, mother-of-toiletseat pickguards, pointy headstocks etc.

I imagine the Rickenbacker headstock trophy was awarded to the owner of the weirdest "off the wall" guitar at the guitar show. Image

Just like the tuners.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

I would pay no more than the value of the TRC and wavy Grover tuners.
