Sold all my RICs, bar one...
I have in the past two months sold all my RIC basses except for one, my totally drop dead gorgeous, plays like a dream ‘72 4001.
In total I have sold six basses made in ‘76’, ‘78, ‘80, ‘84,‘86 and ‘89. The reason being the new neck.
I get a certain amount of pleasure from the slightly older basses, and I really like a few battle scars, but when all is said and done it’s a bass that has to play well, be reliable, feel, sound and look good. I believe the new 4003’s will fit the bill for me.
The day after the new neck was announced I ordered a 4003 AFG with toaster. I don’t like the look of the more recent FG’s and was thrilled that the COY has a real vintage mellowing to it. This I hope will be my main player. I love my ‘72, but can’t get away with any strings but TI’s. These feel and sound pretty good but at times I want a heavy duty sound and string on a bass. I have also been lucky enough to get an order confirmed for the anniversary bass. As no two basses are ever completely alike I will have fun working out the merits of each.
I hope I have done the right thing as one or two of the ones I sold I was very attached to, time will tell…
Any other bass I get after these will probably be for a bit of fun. I still hanker after a 4005.
