Teenage Fanclub

Post by joeyr »

I've been listening to Teenage Fanclub for for the past couple of years. They've been around since the early '90s, but since I don't get around much any more, I'm slow on the uptake. They put the lie to my credo,"If it was recorded after 1970, I don't like it."

Anyway, I didn't know T.F. had videos -- again, old man - slow on the uptake.

Here's a track called "The Concept" I always thought it sounded like they played Ricks, but now I know for sure.

I really like these guys, Im sure a lot of you will too.

Great band. My fave record is 13, though most people prefer Bandwagonesque. Fantastic power pop - I saw them in like 93 or 94 & they put one one hell of a show.

I have Bandwagonesque, I like it a lot. Chris, it amazes me how much music we have in common that I thought no one else liked. I'm impressed, and tip my hat to you, sir.

Yeah, Thirteen does it for me too. Mine has bonus tracks including a great cover of Phil Ochs' "Chords of Fame."

They do some neat covers. Anybody ever hear their versions of "Mr. Tambourine Man" or The Rutles "Between Us"? I, mean -- Who covers Rutles songs? Pretty cool.

TF fans should look into the Palace Brothers. Great jangled power pop and smart songwriting.

Great band! Saw they way back in February 1994; they did a fine version of "Goody Goody Gumdrops" in the encore. Thirteen is a very good album, as is Grand Prix (Neil Jung).

TF fans should also check out the Pyramid Builders Union, who have at least two banging power pop tracks called "January 6" and "Under the Radar".

The Shazam ("Godspeed the Shazam") and Cotton Mather are two others in the Big Star mode, although Cotton Mather mix in more obvious Beatles' references. All very yummy, especially in the summertime.

I saw TF on the Bandwagonesque tour in Vancouver. I have to admit I was sorely disappointed- an unholy din from beginning to end, though I love their stuff. The opening band, Afghan Wigs, were most unpleasant. They kept complaining because they couldn't bring their hash over the border.

Cotton Mather are great! More power pop, please.

Reminds me, I must renew my live 365 subscription in order to listen to all of these bands on there.

Awwwww, Chuck! The Afghan Whigs are one of my favorite bands of all time!
Let's hope it was just a bad night.

I also am a big fan of Teenage Fanclub. I was hooked on them from the first time a friend of mine said, "here, check THIS out" and popped a copy of Bandwagonesque into my cassette deck. I think that Bandwagonesque, Thirteen and Grand Prix are all great albums. I would love to see them live sometime.

I had a tape of Bandwagonesque but it broke during the first listen. I liked what I heard though.
