Pickguardian PG for 4003 doesn't fit my '87

Post by squirefan01 »

I just got a Pickguardian pickguard for my '87 4003. It is not really even close in size. Maybe it's for a 4001? The area around the knobs is much wider than my standard PG, and the knob & screw holes are not really even close to lining up (knobs are up to 1/4" different).

It said it would fit 80's & up on their site. I tried printing the template but can't get it to print in actual size (I am not selecting fit to page but it's doing that anyways).

I suppose others here have bought the PGs from Pickguardian? Any idea if mine sounds like it might be for a 4001?

I just traded my white TRC for a black one (got it today, thanks Cole!), and got the black PG so I could black out my JetGlo 4003. Hope I can get it to work!

Thanks

I always sent Tony the original PG to match to, or left him the bass. He is a great guy and will work with you to correct this problem.

You really should give Tony a call before you post anything here. He will certainly do what it takes to make it right.

What Jeffrey said . I had to make a few new holes to fit my tortoise pickguard on my 77 4001 . I made sure any new holes were inside the perimeter of the original white pickguard .

I have always read great things about Pickguardian, so I have total faith that Tony will work it out with me. I was just looking for experiences here. I read with the pickup surrounds that there were different templates for different 4003s, but not for the pick guards.

I was hoping that somebody might easily be able to know if I may have gotten a 4001 PG by mistake.

Here is a picture of my stock PG (the white one) overlaying the one I just got (the black one).

That looks like an 80s 4003 pickguard to me ...

As you all know, Ricks can be quite different from era to era. Greg's seems to be a fairly early 1-pc guard 4003 (my main template is from a late 90's). Either way we'll take care of Greg, especially since he is sending his original!

No worries. I have talked to Tony and am sending both guards back to him. I wouldn't mind the knob holes being different, but it pushes the electronics against the body cavity so I cannot get the screw holes to line up.

Looking forward to an all-black & chrome 4003 (except the fret board)!

Thanks

Cool. I am glad that worked out. Sorry for calling your intent into question Greg. I was just looking out for Tony.

ya the current 4003 pickguard is different from the 80s 4003 pickguard ...

I had a black pickguard that wasn't a perfect fit ... I made it work ...

FYI, I ended up sending Tony my white guard, and he made a perfect copy in black. Just got it back today and it looks great! Now that I have swapped my white TRC for a black w/ chrome lettering, and have the black guard, my '87 Jetglo 4003 looks awesome!

Thanks Tony!

Cole, I'll get some taken at home and post them this weekend. Hope the white TRC looks great on your guitar too. Did you get your new guard yet?
