Paypal lie to me (twice) and get caught out...
Reading your email from PayPal Peter, you'd get the impression that this was some very trivial matter and as a good will gesture they have restored your account.
One good thing in your case at least, you are getting email from them. My blue with eBay is like a one way street, as they won't even answer any of my requests for information on if they are going to take any action or not any more! Most annoying

Are there any alternatives to Paypal? Apart from cheques & stuff?
Not so bad for small cost items for the ease of use but they take a massive chunk of more expensive sales on using Paypal on Ebay plus the Ebay fees mount up as well.
What about charging the buyer the Paypal fees? Or is that a mean idea LOL!

You can't (officially) do it as it is against Paypal's terms and conditions.

Mail returned Paul, sorry it took so long but I had to take in a sad homeless tramp called Graham Griffiths over the weekend and feed and water him. Obviously I couldn't let someone as untrustworthy as that out of my site in my house. Who knows where the family silver would have gone!

I've been hit many times by this & many sellers put it in their auctions as well!
I think I will only take Paypal for small amounts in future, I'd rather wait for a cheque to clear instead or get cash by recorded post!

Here's on for you guys... I sold a 330 a couple months ago. I sent it via UPS and insured it for the replacement cost. The guy NEVER got the guitar. UPS left it on his door step. So the buyer e-mailed me after 2 weeks complaining that he never got it.. Now, I sent him the tracking info the day after it was shipped, and it would have taken 3 days for delivery. Remember, I heard 2 weeks later. If it was me, I'd have been on the phone the same day....
I called the buyer, he told me two of his axes didn't successfully make it to him, mine and another one. I filed a claim with UPS.
UPS then closes the claim as the driver VERIFIES with the buyer that he got the package.
I then get an e-mail from Paypal saying the buyer stuck in a non-receipt claim as he disputed the charge from his credit card.
I called the buyer, he said he never told UPS that he had the package.
I called UPS again, they had the claim re-opened.
I then called Paypal and gave them the tracking info and also entered it onto an e-mail.
Now Paypal has overdrawn my account with them for the payment amount. So now I can't use it because I am most definately not depositing the cash in there. I called them and they are investigating this to remove the mess from my account.
UPS sends me written notification that the driver SPOKE to the buyer and verified he got the package.
Now, the buyer still is saying he didn't get it.
I called UPS again and had them re-open the claim, I explained the situation and they are confused. So the claim got re-opened.
Does anyone smell the same thing I do?

I had exactly the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. Buyer paid me with Paypal, I sent guitar. Buyer receives guitar and emails me saying that it is the best guitar that he has ever played (this is a stalling technique used by professional con men).
FIVE AND A HALF MONTHS LATER he claims non delivery and charges back to his credit card, Paypal freeze my account which I always keep empty (yes they often freeze my account), and withdraw £1300 from my personal bank account (the details of which were supplied to them to "verify my account" only and no authority was ever given to them to withdraw money). I forward copies of the buyers emails and P/P say I could easily have forged them.
THE OUTCOME - I lost £1300!!!
Point of interest...
A buyer has 180 days to charge back his credit card payment, also be aware that personal cheques (even if cleared) can be claimed back up to the same 180 days if the buyer can successfully "prove" that he didn't receive the goods (not many people know this).

Gerald, at that point I'd be tempted to send this to both UPS and the buyer:
Dear Concerened Party: It is clear that one (or both) of you is lying, so let's have the courts figure out the guilty and innocent. I will go to local Federal District Attorney's office (interstate commerce, Federal jurisdiction) with all of my documentation and file charges of fraud against both of you, so be prepared to be taken into custody shortly for arraignment. BTW, a civil case also will be filed shortly as soon as I talk to my attorney, so be ready to pony-up some $$$ for THAT, which will be very expensive for you.
It is better, of course, to know useless things than to know nothing. - Seneca
