Solo in Day Tripper sounds totally strat to me. Alot of you might of never heard this, but it's there and if you listen close you'll hear it. I have a phased version that hears it clearer... anyhow. during the 2nd guitar solo in Yer Blues, there is a 2nd guitar playing very VERY softly. A Strat! also, the last time a whammy bar was used on a Beatles recording.

Just going by my ears, I would say the lead on You're Gonna Loose That Girl is a Strat, as is both guitar parts on Dizzy Miss Lizzie. It's only love might very well be Fender as well. Bad Boy, recorded in the same session as DML, sounds a lot like Strat's as well. Day Tripper is too early for the Casino, but George was playing a Gibson 355 about this time, which sounds to me a lot like it. Specifically, I think part of the main riff, and the first part of the solo, is John and George playing in unison, with John on the Strat and George playing the Gibson. I don't have any data, that's just my ears--but I think there are two guitars playing lead on DT and I know it's not the 325.

This is the reason I love Live At The Star Club, we know it could only be John's V81, Paul's Cavern bass and George's Duo-Jet. I don't know how anybody can say it's for certain a Strat and even know the amplifier they were plugged into. Day Tripper sounds like the Tennessean to me and that can only be an AC-30 with top-boast.......

Wolfgang, you're right again, my apologies, although I still stand by what my ears are telling me.
*sigh* I'm going to retire from this guessing game. I think that what really happened is every time they saw a photographer they just posed with all these Ricks and Gretschs and Strats ("Oh My!") and when it came time to really record the songs, they shooed the photogs away and hauled out their Kays and Harmonys and Danelectros and Stella acoustics. And then sat around and had a good laugh about all of us arguing about what they played 40 years later.

If its the Tenny then George swapped Filtertrons in it. I think its more the 335 with a Bassman. I have a 66 Bassman and a buddies 335. I also have a Tenny and AC30. The hilo's are just a tad on the weak side for the Day Tripper tone.
Could be the Gent though.
I do like the sound of the Ric, Hofner, and Gretsch too. Different guitars for different periods. Thats part of the Beatle legacy of music.
