Check it out. Truss rod adjustment at the body, 4003s heastock, BUT: Vintage P/U surround, toaster, vintage front pickup spacing, vintage guard/knobs. No split tailpiece.

Very interesting bass.

It is stereo and it has a maple stripe.

I think that you're right, the channel should look like this:

Note how the routing in the pickup area differs, too.

No, they started making smooth routes in about 1980. My '80 AG has no forstner-cut channels like that.

It has a vibe a bit like my V63 prototype bass that is shown in the Smith book as a V63, but isn't. Mine did have an early magnetic shoe and plexi TRC. Both 1984.

In the neck pickup route you can clearly see where the "shoulders" have been removed, to accomodate a ½" pickup location. This bass originally had its front pickup at 1" from the neck.

Bob, does your v83 prototype have truss rods that adjust at the body?
