Hi, Jon, and welcome! BTW, since yesterday, i was wondering: was your nickname (sounds cool, btw) supposed read as "bass + assassin", or "bass as sin", or something else? Image

"Roger" was the brand built by Roger's father, Wenzel. Wenzel remained in Germany when Roger emigrated to the USA, and shifted his workshop between Berlin and the East a couple of times.

Hi Sheena - my screen name comes from a time when I & some fellow band members were trying to think up silly variations on the names of our instrument roles, so I became a "bassassin" and the guitarist became a "guitarsonist". We failed to think of anything remotely silly or clever for the drummer & singer, so that's where that idea ended - but my name seemed to stick!

These days I'm more inclind to think it's a combination of "bass" and "asinine"!

Anyway - my Rick copy's called (by me, at least) a "Rickenbugger". Image

That's my cue.

But I gotta think about the singer...

Hi Jon. A very well constructed and impressive first post.... welcome from Orstraylya!! Image

I have little experience with 'fakers' aside from spotting the odd Greco (did I say 'odd'?) and Rockinbetter in music stores in the US and UK, so I was very interested to read the DP thread because I had no idea that there were so many copiers of the Rickenbacker style over the years.

The verbal sparring to me was more of a side issue but nonetheless an interesting read.

I applaud you for joining up here and giving us your thoughts and opinions..... many would not have bothered. Mind you, when it comes to 'fakers' in this place, as you would have witnessed to date, it's eggshell territory!! Image

Cheers!

Aitch

Bumster. At least, that's the closest English equivalent of what i was called when i was in a band. Yep, i had troubles with the notes - somehow all the instruments, my guitar included, were always off key. Image

Singer? Vocalarrikin, Vocalooter, Vocalarcenist? Replace 'Vocal' with 'Tonsil' and you have 3 more suggestions! Image

I fold!

Ah, but Sheena, if you really did play off key, at least you had the classy wisdom to do so with a Rickenbacker.

In a quite surreal (considering the friendly reception I've had here Image) turn of events, the original Dudepit thread that started all this has been locked by the board owner, who had this to say:

"Come on now guys...this entire thread is a tribute to piracy and illegal infringement of property rights. I will not condone, support or give bandwith to thieves.

If you bought something at a pawnshop in good faith and had a recipt and it's discovered to be stolen later the cops would still confiscate it as being stolen propery."

Clearly it's the board owner's prerogative to take such a stance - but that's going to be a really quiet part of the Dudepit now, if discussion of copies is now banned.

Yeah, that was definitely unexpected. Was that Steve Barr or one of his moderators? What exactly does he find objectionable?

That's Steve. Perhaps he knows JH posts at the 'pit and wants to have a good rapport with him?
