Interesting, the block in this instrument resembles the Callaham block, as you can see the ball ends just beneath the surface.

I've often wondered what happened to Buddy's '55, not to mention the other one that he had that was ripped. Amazing to think he had two strats stolen in his short career, not including the ones stolen from the Beatles from their storage space, he lost more guitars on his U.S. tours than that entire band did in many U.K. tours and three world tours (perhaps Buddy had no road managers. That might have helped.)
