Introduction

Post by redrickmi »

I've lurked this board and the Rickenbacker forums for a while, but just recently joined. I bought my 4001 brand spankin' new back in March of 1974. Thanks to the info I got on these boards, I added a cap bypass switch and a Hipshot bridge a year and a half ago, a couple of days ago I installed the toaster and vintage knobs. The love affair continues! The first pic is about 5 years old, the second I took today.

I hope you enjoy the pics, and it's good to be here!

Wow that is a really cool looking bass! Very unique. How is that Hipshot working out? The saddles on mine wiggled all over the place so I had to get rid of it.

Thanks for the photo Reid. An different look than I am used to with the red guard.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Hi again and thanks for the warm greetings! I'm going to indulge in one last bit of self-promotion and bass porn, and include a full frontal shot! ;-)

Image

The red pickguard, which I really like, didn't start out that way. For Christmas one year back in the 80's (remember those?) I received a Schecter polished brass Rickenbacker replacement pickguard. I lived with it a few years but never really liked the polished brass effect. It was a little too gaudy, somehow. I happened to have a can of GM Dark Red Metallic spray paint around, and one thing lead to another, and I've had a red pickguard for nearly twenty years. I've still got the 1989 Camaro, in Dark Red Metallic, that caused me to have the paint! :-)

I know what you mean, Marc, back then I could have gotten a used '68 for probably a couple of hundred bucks! Unfortunately, Ricks were hard to come by back then, too! A friend of mine had found and bought a used Rick, it was a 1970 I seem to remember. Someone had committed some serious truss rod atrocities on that bass, and the last I saw of it, my friend actually launched an arrow off it due to the bending of the neck. The finish on that bass seemed to be somewhere between a FireGlo and a BurgundyGlo, it was a beaut.

Actually, I think I have figured a way to save a few bucks. Instead of ordering an Amber FireGlo Rick, get a FireGlo and wait thirty years! :-0 LOL

Anyway, thanks again and it's great to be here!

Welcome, Reid!
That's a real beauty of an FG finish.
It's also good to see that there are a few Ricks still in their original owner's hands.
Plus five minus five!
