Hi again and thanks for the warm greetings! I'm going to indulge in one last bit of self-promotion and bass porn, and include a full frontal shot!
The red pickguard, which I really like, didn't start out that way. For Christmas one year back in the 80's (remember those?) I received a Schecter polished brass Rickenbacker replacement pickguard. I lived with it a few years but never really liked the polished brass effect. It was a little too gaudy, somehow. I happened to have a can of GM Dark Red Metallic spray paint around, and one thing lead to another, and I've had a red pickguard for nearly twenty years. I've still got the 1989 Camaro, in Dark Red Metallic, that caused me to have the paint!
I know what you mean, Marc, back then I could have gotten a used '68 for probably a couple of hundred bucks! Unfortunately, Ricks were hard to come by back then, too! A friend of mine had found and bought a used Rick, it was a 1970 I seem to remember. Someone had committed some serious truss rod atrocities on that bass, and the last I saw of it, my friend actually launched an arrow off it due to the bending of the neck. The finish on that bass seemed to be somewhere between a FireGlo and a BurgundyGlo, it was a beaut.
Actually, I think I have figured a way to save a few bucks. Instead of ordering an Amber FireGlo Rick, get a FireGlo and wait thirty years! :-0 LOL
Anyway, thanks again and it's great to be here!
Reid
