I've had that ol' bass so long, I can't imagine it not being here. It was the first major thing I bought as a young adult. After I got it, I was almost afraid to play it. I imagine a few folks around here understand that feeling.

Nice bass, cool pictures, you might want to avoid the for sale section Reid. This place can be very expensive to hang out at. That little lady is going to want some friends now that she knows where they all live.
Dang! I hadn't even noticed the For Sale section. I don't know whether to be mad or happy! I just spent a few minutes there and realize that I'd better step away from the keyboard! LOL

Tom - I feel very fortunate to still have that old red bass. As I said earlier, I bought it when I was pretty young, and like most folks, I've gone through some financial ups and downs over the years. Lots of other basses have come and gone, but I'll never give this one up.
Alan - The toaster just flips me right out. I'm trying really hard to find ways to work this bass into the music situation I'm in now. I always liked the sound of this bass, and I've heard the "sounds like a piano" routine lots through the years. But man, the toaster, even though I'm a finger-style player, I hear a bit of that sound I always associated with Chris Squire. It flippin amazes me.
Mark - I dig the red PG, too. It doesn't look at all like the color of my old Camaro (I bought the paint to touch up a few spots) and I think it's because of the polished brass underneath reflects back through the paint. Maybe somebody like Paul W. who is skilled in finishes could confirm my guess.
Anyway, thanks again everybody, it's great to be able to hang out with Rick fanatics after all these years!
Reid, I totally understand. I was 17 years and four months and about 20 days old when I got mine. As with you, many other basses have come and gone, financial upheavals, personal traumas etc but the 4001MG is still here and probably will be until they pry it out of my old arthritic hands to give to some deserving bass player - or sell it on EBay. If they get it away from me without a fight I figure I'm pretty close to dead anyhow... it is indeed a great club we all belong to!

Mark, that's my low-rent cap bypass switch modification. Hell, the switch has been in my parts box for twenty years, that probably makes it a NO-rent cap bypass switch!
I am in heaven with the tonal flexibility I have with that switch and the toaster.
Tom - congrats on your keeper. It is totally cool to know that our basses have stayed with us through hell and high-water. Whenever I pick that old dude up to play it, it feels like home.
