GREED?

Post by jingle_jangle »

Judge for yourself...

For "only" $25,000.00, too and ONLY 300 copies will be built...

WHEN will this madness cease?

Once Fender created the first 'monsters' with the Beck and Clapton distraught reissues, this was inevitable. Tacky, greedy and absurd!

I received this same mailing this afternoon. Unfortunately, as long as there's hero worship and "boomers" with the financial means, there will always be a market. Gibson has been the biggest contributor to all this craziness with the issuance of the Clapton "Crossroads 335", the Jimmy Page Les Paul & EDS-1275, the Duane Allman & Dickey Betts Les Pauls, the Alvin Lee "Woodstock 335" and the Hendrix Flying V. IIRC, the Clapton guitars sold out in a matter of a day at $25K. Now Fender has issued a Clapton "Blackie" replica that commands a hefty price as well....oh, and can't forget the SRV #1 and Jeff Beck Esquire.

Personally, I can think of quite a few vintage guitars that I'd rather spend that kind of money on that would bring me a lot more satisfaction. Of course, I'm a little guilty of this myself with a couple Murphied Les Pauls in my collection, so I guess I can't throw too many stones Image

Did I miss something? I could see if it was the ACTUAl guitar, he died, and it was up for auction. Short of that..........idiocy.

You're correct, George. Although I do know guys my own age who would give their left, um....foot to have one of those hideous things. Doesn't do a thing for me.

Well, if somebody likes that style and is willing to pay that amount of money... why not?.. Personally, i didn't like that one, it kinda reminded me of a lovechild of a kitchen table cloth and a towel horse, but to each their own...

Paul, one of these days you're going to get a call from someone who put a ding in one of these...

I'm too busy laughing to finish this post...all I would recommend is that you charge double the usual rate!

Double? I think 16.67X the usual rate.

But that would be unethical, wouldn't it? LOL!

Just consider...more damage would make it inauthentic!

That's why I'm dying here! I'm picturing someone bent out of shape because of the scratch on his Jeff Beck Esquire...or worse yet, he's distrustful of your repair because he loses track of which scratch you were supposed to re-distress! Haaaa, shoulda boughta car!

Didn't EVH build the guitar originally out of Allparts pieces, or something like that?
That cost him, maybe, $200!
Why not do the same yourself & spend the left over $24,800 on a house downpayment!

I wasn't aware EVH's original was a Fender!

I think VH still fits into boomer territory.
