I don't know what it is about that song--but I really love it. One of the best covers I ever heard was by a lounge band at a Sheraton Hotel bar in Anchorage back in the mid-80s. They had two female vocalists, and covered a lot of Heart stuff, but at one point broke into this song. I still remember it...

Hey guys it's not that hard, it starts in the key of A and does a transition to D from the bridge into the last verse. A-F#m-A-F#m-A-F#m-D-E ...2 verses of this progression(the Turtles left out a verse),then into the bridge: ..walk down from E-Eb-to D-Db to C-Cb to Bb resolves into A then start the last verse in key of D. ,D-Bm-D-Bm-G-A ends on a fade out of D to Bm several times.
