I tried Chromes first as I knew that you and Jeff Scott were big fans of them on your 4005's. I can't remember off-hand what gauge chromes I tried, something like 45/65/85/105 or close. I probably should have gone lighter. They were too high tension for the neck. I have RIC RW's on it now. I can't remember what else I tried off-hand (but they were round!) My next move will probably be TI Jazz flats. I'm not much of a fan of flats, but they might be the way to go with this bass.

Thanks Tony! And if I haven't said this already, congrats on your '71.

Good to see that an occasional deal still pops up on Ebay from time to time.

Thanks Jeff!

I haven't had a chance to take some pictures either. I'm hoping to get to it ASAP.

Like I said in another post, it's been a great year for our fourm members!

I'm really thankful for BIN! Best thing Ebay ever did!

rickaddict wrote: The one getting most of my attention lately though is the 2030 Glen Frey I picked up in Amsterdam a couple months back. I wish I had pics... Nice comfortable contoured body, nice 80's-4003-like neck, 4001/4003 string-spacing (if you adjust the bridge right), black hardware, JetGlo with Blackstar-like microdot fretboard, Silver back-painted pickguard and TRC, and those chunky-sounding (yet noiseless) RIC humbuckers. Very cool bass. Not very flashy though. No checkers or sparklies. I wonder how many were made :?:
Hey. Its gone from the dirkwitte website. It was there for a long time though. Must be even more seldom than a 4005 I guess.

Welcome to the club, Jeff! :) Try the 40-95 Chromes, they are much better than the heavier sets.

Looking at the close up pic above you might have to move the bridge back a bit to intonate the bass as some of the saddles are all the way back. I can't remember who here had to do so on a 4005 he got; mine luckily was set at the right location so mine intonates fine.

Yep, that was the one, Bert! When I bought it, Barry Witte (Where have I heard that name before?! :) ) told me that they had ordered 7 or 8 of them when they were made available in 1992 and that this was the last one that they had left. So that poor bass hung around the shop unsold for 15 years! I guess the demand for 2030 GF basses in Amsterdam isn't very strong! Its a great bass though. The thing was all dusty, dull and covered with fingerprints. But with new strings, a little Scratch-X and Zymol, and a good set-up, the bass looks new and plays and sounds incredible. Its a keeper for sure! Barry also let me know that he hasn't been able to get any new basses from RIC in 2 or 3 years. My 2030GF was the only Rick bass they had in stock. They're an authorized RIC dealer, but can't get any product. That's sad, because Dirk Witte is a great shop. They were honest, knowledgeable, bilingual, and easy to deal with. My local dealer the CME in contrast always has a few new Rick basses in stock, but they steal from their customers every chance they get.

40-90 Jeff? That sounds like a big change from my 45-105 preference. Maybe I'll give 'em a try though. Thanks.

RickinRoma had an earlier clip on youtube too which I listened a lot. I'm seriously thinking about what to sell and save some money meanwhile as I really like this sound.
You can always sell me your 4001 '73 :P

I thought about buying it some times. But bassicaly I prefer the 400x sound. So there was no need in trying. I'm glad the 2030 now has a good home. :)

Hmm. I still have a 4003 BBR in order there. Must be the last 4003 BBR ever produced by the time I get it.
