I have noticed that the price of oil in decorating products has been rising steadily.Never mind the fact that im paying £106p per litre of diesel.

Me too - this really gives me a wood too. But seriously, maybe it is only $20 worth of that $1000. But it must be at least some of the increase. Hey, I am trying to be as nice and non-offensive to everyone (RIC and their ilk) involved as possible!!! These days ebony for example is sold by the pound, not by the board foot anymore! :(

Mmmm...I paid $2100.00 for my new 381 back in '04.

At least these are price increases based on real-world issues, not the sort of extrinsically-based hype of other manufacturers.

In other words, at least with RIC, you get what you pay for in real estate, not smoke and mirrors in a selling atmospehere smelling faintly of brimstone...

Fair point Paul. What you give is what you get.We are talking quality instruments. Suppose we have to bite the bullet.

A Ric is getting into the price range of a Les Paul or a Gibson acoustic or a flagship Martin or Taylor model. I say they deserve to be. As a result, I just ordered one, before they go up. Anyone else ? Hell, I've had a rough year and a terrible week, this is gonna turn out good ! 8)

Well, two on my wishlist remain. But this means I'll never get a (new) 650 with vibrato. Drat. I need vibrato.

I certainly agree that you still get a good value for the $$$$ compared to other brands.....but, with that said, I'm glad I'm not looking at ordering anything. :D

I'd think that the oil finished guitars are eliminated not so much for cost of the finish but because it deviates from the standard process so things get slowed down and the resources could be used elsewhere. An oil finish is cheap (compared to CV) and I'd have to think much less time consuming. I sanded the old finish off of my Wal and had a hand rubbed an oil finish applied in less than 2 hours.....most of that was the sanding.

Wow,

The price increase is understandable, which probably means the USED prices are going to climb as well.

But what I found most upsetting was the FL being taken off of the line. I'm just in love with my new 4003FL AFG, it really saddens me to see it go.
It really is such a SWEET instrument, I hope it makes a return one of these days. :( :( :(

I guess it is just supply & demand, taking it's toll. :(

I would strongly suggest anyone who was considering ordering a FL, do it now....if it isn't already too late.

May I ask for a moment of silence please............................................. :(

The models 650S and 650D have been cut due to elimination of the oil finish process and in anticipation of updated models
This is an interesting comment. I am wondering what the updated models will be and if they are within the 650 series or another? Perhaps John Hall will be able to comment.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

4003FL, it says, is on hiatus, while others are discontinued. But then again, the acoustics are on hiatus too, right? :)

I'm certainly glad I ordered my 360/12 when I did, even though it isn't an endangered species. And I guess I don't blame RIC for raising prices. Looks like I lucked out again being at the right place at the right time.

Hmmm, maybe I should have kept my 650S. Oh well. :)

All steps to help with the backlog. It looks like I'm never going to be able to buy a new Rick again, though. Good thing I got on the Cii action when I did.
