Re: 4004Cii Cheyenne Trustrod Problem
Out of my ignorance I must ask, how did RIC get the rods in if the bass has to be routed to get the rods out? Also, are the rods threaded in the neck or do they just sit in the neck and tighten at each end?

I imagine RIC puts the truss rods in before gluing the fretboard on.

Robert, sounds like you couldn't trust that rod...
The rods have threading at both ends. The bridge/body end has a locking hexnut and capnut, jammed against each other in a friction-sized recess, and the headstock end has the ubiquitous long (standoff) nut.

Hmmm...okay. I retract my earlier offer to assist in repairing this instrument.

Re: 4004Cii Cheyenne Trustrod Problem
Here's a pic of Jeff Scott's old Cii with the truss rod repair routes that were done at RIC under warranty I believe. These routes came in handy when I was having truss rod problems due to the rods having a lot of curve in them. Since this bass is a five string now truss rod performance is critical but everything is fine now.

Hey Mark, I see you are using a taper core B string. I want to try those on my Cii/5 basses because I think they wound vibrate and fit better on the ABM bridge. What are your thoughts on the taper wound B strings on that bass?

Joey, that looks better, but could you move the bridge pickup a litle bit further from the bridge?
Oh yeah, make the pickups toasters while your at it!

Re: 4004Cii Cheyenne Trustrod Problem
My Luthier, John Wescott, is willing to tackle the job, and I don't mind, at all, the routing pictured in Jeff Scott's old Cii. It looks kind of cool, and, as mentioned, it will be easier to replace a trustrod if it goes bad again. My problem is finding the parts. I've checked all the resources mentioned in this thread except Rickenbacker, who are down till Jan 2nd. I've found in the past that Rickenbacker are very cold and unhelpful, when it comes to helping out owners of their basses. So, by chance, if I strike out there, anyone looking in on this posting knows another source for trustrods, I would appreciate the link. I've tried Pick of the Ricks and Mike Parks, and a few other Rick dealers, i.e. Ed Roman, so keep me in mind if anyone has any other suggestions. Jeff Rath mentioned that he might have one floating around, but I'd hate to buy your spare Jeff, when I see that trustrod replacement on the Cii's seems to be a bit common. I'll try Rickenbacker in the New Year. In the mean time, I would like to wish everyone in this Forum, a safe, healthy, and happy holiday and New Year. I own 12 Ricks and find this forum to be a great place to keep up my knowledge of an instrument that I truely love.

Joey Vasco,
Is your JetGlo Cii stock, or did you have it refinished by someone? Just curious, because it shines like a diamond.

Robert, it is a factory Jetglo finish. I call it the Black & Bling (aka Brian's fault
).
