For Jared- Cheyenne content

Post by markbass99 »

I was going through the Rickenbacker thread over at Talkbass and came across these pics, this has got to be an extremely rare bass, a 1999 Cheyenne with quilted top wood and left hand at that! The rickenbacker thread is about 50 pages long and has pics from some of the members on here. I would say the attitude towards ricks has improved on that website over the past 4 years, sort of like the way the prices have "improved" during the same time frame.

It seems the first batch of "Cheyenne II" basses were made with beautiful quilted tops. Unlike the current Cheyenne IIs, the construction was similar to the Cheyenne (I) with the addition of the quilted top. If you were to view the back, it would look just like the old Cheyenne. Somewhere along the way, they switched to the maple front and back with a walnut center ("walnut sandwich"). There was a righty like this one on eBay some four years ago that I wanted, but was outbid.

The TRC is typical of left-handed Cheyennes; in fact, ALL leftie Ricks have back-painted plexi TRCs. Why? Evidently, when RIC went to the raised-letter TRC style (cheaper and sturdier, I suspect), they made molds for only right-handed TRCs.

It would be nice to see a few more basses with wood like this across the board. (No pun intended... :D )

That bass is gorgeous. I wouldn't mind having one like that also.

Hmm,,, so I guess when the CheyenneII first came out, it had walnut ears like the first generation CI ?

If you look back at the RIC site catalog photo from the '90's, it shows a CII with a quilt top, bubinga board,, but does'nt show the headpiece. (I'd copy and post the pic, but Im afraid of infringing on RIC's stringent copyright policies.

I would imagine these basses would be quite rare.??

It did, and still does, have the walnut headwings.

That leftie trans red Cii I'm pretty sure is the one that belongs to "Mr. X" in Chicago, a friend of mine and Ted S.'s

There was a time when they didn't, though.

I think that you are correct Paul, and a mighty fine bass it is too.
