I've seen the mute screws come loose and fall out of some basses ... :cry:

When I was but a lad, the combination of my punk downstroke-only pick action and hand placement resulted in the progressive loosening of the bass-side mute screw on my 4000, particularly during very energetic numbers, necessitating a quick tightening at the end of each song. Thankfully, the more energetic songs were usually the shortest, so it only popped out on a very small number of occasions.
