The sad part is the destruction of a complete bass to part it out in the hopes that the pieces are worth more than the whole thing. I think he's in for a hard lesson.

I think the seller should sell this one to Jon Camp.

I hate to ask, but for what is "YGBSM" an acronym?

When did 4001 basses have the 7 screw tailpiece? I'll bet this is an early 4003 that he put a 4001 TRC on.

Well, yes and no. Same year, Same neck break (only a darker line along the seam of the break), same color, same checking, even on the fretboard. Missing mute, missing mute screw. I'm not saying that this is the same one, but it is remarkably similar, and it was listed online for a time, so it IS possible. It played and sounded great actually, it just looked, well, funky. All it needed was a couple new parts and a refin, really. It's a shame either way, when it could have been simple, but oh well.

Considering all the miracles imparted upon us by yourself and Dale, I have a hard time looking at any vintage instrument as a parts bass, with the exception of Jerry Only's 4001.

Now he's got the neck pickup, black pickguard, and controls up for $500. Dreamer.

My comment was a riff on your words, "for sale around these parts".
