Really suggest a tube head. Tubes and Rickies just go together. With a lot of other basses the newer SS amps do just fine, but why not use the best when you are playing the best?
Currently: Tuxedo, 1972 4000
Past holdings: 1968 4005, Blackstar, 3000, CS, Alembric, Tuxedo, 360-12, Blackstar, 360-12, 1982 4003, Shadow, 4003 SnowGlow, CS in that order.

i would try to sway you towards a tube head as well.
check out Traynor's new tube bass head. hand built and excellent quality (i had one for a while), great price too.
of course you couldn't go wrong with a vintage ampeg (V4/B or an SVT) - but as mentioned; heavy.
for ss, i'd recommend looking at Ashdown as well.

Well, for me it's not so much about the "amp" subtleties as it is the cabinet. I'm partial to the old Karlson bass cabinets with a single 15" EVM speaker. For a club scene one Karlson cabinet with a second dual 10" EVM cabinet is all you need for even the loudest club gig. For outdoor concerts I double this with two Karlson's and two EVM 10" cabinets. Sorta gives that SVT thing without hauling a refrigerator to the gig. Google Karlson bass cabinet for tons of info. Basically, you'll either love them, or at least be neutral. I've never had anyone say they sucked. On the down side they may be getting a bit hard to find. I don't know. I've had mine for the last 15 years... (oh, forgot. I use GK 800RB's for the amps---biamped)
Re: Recommend me an amp to go with my Ric Bass
Are you refering to the EV B-210 cabinet? I used to have two of those, great cabinets. I only sold them to go more compact/lighter. A good friend of mine has one of them so it is still handy if I need it for something.yfoiler wrote:...dual 10" EVM cabinet...

Check talkbass.com -- you can find some good deals in the for sale sections. I play through a GK 1001RB into an Avatar 2x12, and the setup absolutely honks. It's also pretty easy to transport, and ran me about $500 used (shipping on the GK included). It's not the most traditional setup, but I like it a lot.

Yep, those are the ones. It's been so long since I've looked at the model numbers I'm not sure what I have!Ric-a-holic wrote:

I find they are great for the mids to upper mids without feeling scratchy like the SWR tweeter type thing.
Re: Recommend me an amp to go with my Ric Bass
I am not a big fan of tweeters in my bass cabs. I built a 1-10 version of the B-210 which sounds great and gets nice and loud.

Neither am I. I turn off tweeters in bass cabs that I use. I wish all the cab makers had a no tweeter option. Just a couple of them do.jps wrote:I am not a big fan of tweeters in my bass cabs

Hi there!
I have an swr 160 using 2x10 + t cabinet
but for my 4001 I prefer best my ashdown mag 300 1x15
!!!Avoid cheap ampeg 100 1x15+t This amp was a real headache for me!!!

I always turn the tweeters in my cabs off too.
Welcome Vasilis! I see you're in Crete, which is the island I would most like to relocate to. I love it there, although I've only seen a little of it so far.

I have an Ashdown MAG 300 combo with the 2 X 10's and I don't like it at all. I just can not get the sound I want. Will probably go back to a single 15" speaker. Loved my early 80's Peavey Combo 400!!!
Re: Recommend me an amp to go with my Ric Bass
My Ampeg Portabass cabs all have tweeters in them. I find that if I turn them off, that there is a slight loss in crispness and definition when I slap or pop the strings. If I have a chorus, flanger or phasor turned on, the sweeping sound benefits from the tweeter as well.
