Re: Rickenbacker Knock Offs

The Italias I bragged about...knockoffs? I'd like to think not. The shape yes, but their own spirit from within!
Some forum brothers will undoubtedly appreciate, others will not. It's all good and good spirit is abounding!
The Riminis do chime and twang with brilliant voice and reason. The reason is in the finished product...spoken...

Re: Rickenbacker Knock Offs
I own a Ric 330/6 and a 360/12 left handed.
I needed another 6 string to use as backup in case I broke a string on stage...I had a Tele but I'm not a Tele guy and I wanted something more in line with the Rics since I play in a British Invasion band...but Ric lefties are hard to find and I wouldn't kid myself thinking I could afford one even if I did find one.
So..I sold my Tele and bought one of these

Made by Rondo...except mine has mini humbuckers...I was not expecting too much...$330.00...After restringing and tweaking the set up, I cannot put it down. If it got stolen, I could replace it in a heartbeat.
Here is one on ebay right now...looks just like mine

I came REAL close to buying a used Rimini 12 on Ebay a while ago, but my 330-12 looked sad and jealous, so I demurred.lcjones wrote:As well, the Italia Rimini Series, which I think is a very nice guitar, has taken it's que's from Ric design.

In all seriousness, those Riminis look like very cool guitars and I would not hesitate to buy one at some point, but it's gotta have the mother of toilet seat top! Everyone I know who's played one raves about it.

Mr. Bob,
You will not be disappointed with the Riminis, at least I'm guessing. However, no one really knows except you. I aimed for P90's over minibuckers. Here are a couple other 12's I love, mid 70's Ovation Deacons. These my friend, are fantastic! I may start a separate post in the "others," just to ruffle feathers and raise eyebrows...of which I have the knack!

Check this knock-off of the double bound OS Harrison model. Ignoring the obvious illegality, one must admit that it's not quite so shabby looking (I understand these have a wider neck, a bit more like the Tom Petty Model, for easier playability). In particular, I find the Greco G tailpiece a most elegant riposte to the Rick "R" in comparison to the usual jumble of spaghetti.

Re: Rickenbacker Knock Offs
It's been brought up before, but Fano makes a nice-looking Combo-style guitar, with German carve.

Not too bad considering we'll probably never see the reissue. Corny relicing though.

Very nice guitar Jeff. While I don't have one of these, I recently picked up an AL-2000 w/P-90s, a little over $200, and it's a great guitar--not heavy, very nice feel to the neck, very nice package all around.Memphis Blue wrote:I own a Ric 330/6 and a 360/12 left handed.

Re: Rickenbacker Knock Offs
For what it's worth, I've played several Fano guitars, and every one of them kicks arse in its own special way. I haven't tried the RB6, but if the others are any indication, then I'm sure it would be a great guitar. I've played both the the sunburst TC6 with dual Filtertrons, and the burgundy sparkle TC6 with PowerTrons, which is one of the best sounding guitars I've ever heard. (Thank you, TV Jones!) I've also played several of the others shown on the site, including the black JM6 with the stop tailpiece, the "fireglo" JM6 with the Bigsby, and the "blue boy" 12-string JM6. (The color is closer to Daphne Blue, by the way.) They're all rock-solid, and they play and sound great. The "relicking" doesn't bother me, although I do recall that one was relicked so extensively that the original straplocks were corroded to the point where they were useless. Very minor problem, though. I'd consider the ~$2K price reasonable for any of these.
I hope Mr. Fano is allowed to continue making the RB6, at least long enough for me to get one!

Re: Rickenbacker Knock Offs
Wow, ioffer is outta control...they are'nt even trying to be creative to hide the fakes. They flat out say they're RICKENBACKERS! However, it's not just Ric, it's just about every brand name out there getting clobbered on the site...it's an intellectual property free for all! I'm guessing they (owners of ioffer) have about a fraction of the resources of ebay and therefore no real way of policing the site. I'm sure it's just a matter of time until a "cease and desist" order shows up from some legit company's legal dpeartment.

I own a left handed Dillion J-160 E copy that plays and sounds better that the real Gibson I had back in the mid 90's
