I hope I don't get flamed too badly for saying this, but, to me, that is an unacceptable way to repair a problem. I'm glad that wasn't my bass or that repair would probably have driven me away from RIC instruments. Two routes at the bass of the neck are not a design of the bass as advertised. I don't really know what risks are involved in removing the board, but that should have been the option taken, and, if not possible, the bass replaced. I equate it to going for warranty brake work on your car and the dealer cutting a hole in your fender to get to the brakes because they were just too hard to get to.incubus2432 wrote: Jeff Scott's ex-Cii had a truss rod problem that required them to be removed and with the p/u's positioned away from the neck the only way to remove the rods (aside from fretboard removal) was to route two channels in the face of the body. With the p/u at the neck the rods can be removed by simply removing the neck p/u. At least that is my understanding for the change. I prefer the current layout, which was also the original.

Re: 1,000 days
It was the best possible solution and it did look fine, really. John had the bass in his office for quite a while debating how to proceed with the repair. I am pretty sure this was a major reason for RIC putting the pickups in their original location; I had no problems with how they dealt with the issue.nukebass wrote:I hope I don't get flamed too badly for saying this, but, to me, that is an unacceptable way to repair a problem. Re: 1,000 days
I've seen the routes in pics that Jeff posted. It was a well done job, in fact, you had to look closely to see the routing that was done.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: 1,000 days
I agree. The routs were refinished to look like they were always there. Besides Jeff was probably asked before the routs were made. What about the brand ( I forget right now) that has the little pocket at the end of the neck to adjust the neck with the knob in the rout? All depends on what you want and how you want to do it.rickenbrother wrote:I've seen the routes in pics that Jeff posted. Re: 1,000 days
I've seen basses with the routes at the base of the neck (my Yamaha BB300 had one), but they were in the design of the bass. If everybody was happy with the results, that's cool. I've only seen closeups, so maybe my perception was thrown off.

Re: 1,000 days
I always like bringing this up for shi*s and giggles (and I'm not trivializing the 1000 day wait)...
I placed my order for the 4004lk on February 24, 1996. I took delivery of the bass October 15, 2005.
My guess is that it ran about 3515 days...
I know it's hard waiting but don't lose hope.
On a funny note: I met Lemmy at the anaheim HOB show last week while dropping off a guitar
for Phil Campbell. I brought the control plate back cover just in case. He signed it for me I'll post
pics once I get it photographed.
Cheers!
Joe

Re: 1,000 days
Joe, if you count Feb. 24th and Oct. 15th, it was 3522 days, or 9 years, 7months, 22 days. A lesson in patience.
Re: 1,000 days
Couldn't they wait a couple of months more till Feb. 24 2006?9years8months wrote:I placed my order for the 4004lk on February 24, 1996. I took delivery of the bass October 15, 2005.

I thought RIC only started taking orders for the 4004LK after production was officially announced at the 2001 NAMM show?9years8months wrote: I placed my order for the 4004lk on February 24, 1996. I took delivery of the bass October 15, 2005.

Re: 1,000 days
I talked with Kenny Howes about a separate matter this week, and slipped in a question about Cheyenne production. He quickly responded, "December" and "probably not delivered for Christmas." I assume that means they may be scheduled for production in December, but won't be completed and delivered until after the company's holiday break. That's the latest news.

Re: 1,000 days
I don't believe those dates anymore, Paul. This is at least the fourth one I've read on the forum. Thanks for the update, though. At least RIC hasn't quit making them yet!!

Hey All!
Sorry for the late replies
Thanks for the numbers update john! Funny thing, I work in accounting...(D'oh!)
Alright Berth...grumble...I guess they could have made me wait more. Wouldn't want to do it again though.
Rickenbacker pretty much took the order from Grayson's tunetown the monday following
feb 24th. The bummer was that they canceled all of the orders in 2001 and I lost my place
in line. I was probably the first (or one of the first) on order. I still have the fax to rickenbacker
explaining my order along with all of my original receipts and stuff.
I've gotten the call from grayson's that the 1992lem came in. Good times!
I've still got to take an updated photo and will do so shortly.
Cheers all!
Joe

Re: 1,000 days
Considering all that I've heard about how much nicer the figure the the wood that has been used by RIC as of late, if I had a 4004 on order I'd be glad it wasn't made sooner.
