Re: 1997 vs 1998 PT
Are there any significant differences between the neck of a 90's era 1997 and 90's era 330's/360's (inlays aside)? I mean shape, feel...

From all the different ones I've played, yes. The 1997 necks varied big time, but I have played maybe a half dozen of them, and even more modern 330's and the modern necks are much fatter. I wish I had actual size measurements, but I don't.
Even 1997 reissues vary- early ones had slimmer necks compared to later reissues, but then you could have two necks made the same day that feel entirely different. It's one of the benefits of a handmade instrument, they all have their own feel.

Re: 1997 vs 1998 PT
I played a friend's 1997RI of unknown vintage a few years back and it felt just like my '93 330. The 330 has a very slim, comfortable neck, which I hear is typical of that era. I tend to like thicker necks now, but I had a fat-neck '05 360/12 that was downright painful to play after long sessions for some reason - just carved really uncomfortably.

Re: 1997 vs 1998 PT
My 1987 has a very fine, slim neck.
Don't know about the middle one it's about the same as the '87, IIRC.
'00 has a thick neck comparatively, and it's my favorite for playing live and recording.
Don't personally know about 330 necks, thought I'd guess the thicker necked 1997's are close to them.

Re: 1997 vs 1998 PT
Thanks for the heads up, Jeff. A number have actually told me about this in the "Ric Marketplace" forum. I'm hoping I can bid on this...a PT signature is out of the question now. I don't want it, or need it. Pete himself didn't even have the windmill pose pickguard, why should I? I also don't need a SPC, if I really wanted that third pickup, I could get a second 1997 and have one of the RIC luthiers add one for me (or remove the neck, make a new neck and add binding to make a custom 1993/12, but that's another story). I had trouble with the third pickup when I owned a 325, pick kept hitting the middle pickup, so two pickups are better than three. If I don't/can't get this, I can always check with Mike Parks...or Gbase...or any other sources I dare to look.

Nah, I like to wait 'til the last two minutes of the auction before I place a bid. That's when the action's fun

Two minutes? Pffft.....that's why you get outbid!
My rule is 20 seconds or less. If you can't count the seconds on two hands....fuggetaboutit.
I remember getting frustrated at snipers years ago, until I learned that everyone knows how the game works, and ya might as well get good at it if you want something. Of course, computer sniper programs have made it harder..

It's over $2100 now. I am glad to see that these are finally appreciating in value.
