Man you guys are too quick for me! I was just headed over here from the bay, to post about that mapleglo 4003 with the black pickguard, and I see you've already found it. I thought it should have a split pickguard if its a 4003 from 80, shouldn't it? And that looks like an Ibanez board....

Yes, it should.
I don't think this one 4003 is a fake, though, but no doubt that one piece pickguard is not original to it. And to be a 4001 it should sport a 'skunk' stripe.

Also note the pickup cover is incorrectly mounted. The top looks nice, but I'm not as fond of the chunkier body from this period.

LOL... I've had it mounted the same way on my first Ric until I realized the correct way. The reason, probably, is that pickup covers on Fenders are mounted like this.

I think it is a genuine early 80's 4003 completely refinished and a new pickguard ...
