Since hearing the Hendrix’s Experience (all those years ago) with Noel's eight, playing a Hagstrom a couple years later in a music store, then actually getting Ricken-itis, Squire's and Entwhistle's eights and so on... well all I can say is ‘thanks Dane and his luthier Bruce for making this possible'. I hope when I play it that I do justice to the way it ought to be played.

Tom, I remember hearing a sound bite of your 4004L/8 that you posted a while after you got it. The tone was great and your playing definitely did justice to the way it ought to be!

Lovely attention to detail, especially with the headstock. Now, what does she sound like?

I tried to record the Harleybacker direct to the mixing/recording console, like 4001CS, or other Rickenbacker basses. The signal is simply too hot. The gain I set on the minimum, all the EQ and affect are "off", or "bypassed", but I hear slightly distorted sound. On the PJB amp I haven´t problem, I use the input for active bass there.
Calling Mark Walker, the professor of Rickenbacker recording, where can be the problem? Do You have some advice, please?

Well, I can offer a limited perspective for what it's worth to you, Zden. You could have an impedance discrepancy between the board and the bass preamp, but that seems unlikely. Maybe the bass is just to hot for it's own good! If it's getting a good, clean signal through your PBJ, how about going line out from the head into the board. Maybe that will help you get control over the gain. Mess around with pre & post switching if you have the option. Maybe even lower the pickups a bit if that doesn't mess with the way you like your tone.

Unfortunately I can´t record similar huge and rich sound, like goes from my Phil Jones Bass Double SixPak. My cheap ZOOM recorder is overloaded by direct recording. I used PJB amp to cut some important frequencies for the recording
Nevermind, Harleybacker will be a stage bass.

Thanks for the raw sample. The bass has a nice warm bottom, and a smooth brightness. Wish I could hear it cranked through your monster stack! All the more incentive to make it out to the CR one of these days.

Great idea, the doors are always open for You. This Year I reinforced the roof above the bass room, so we cam jam loud. Very loud!!
